Imaging Services 

Imaging services at the Royal Free offer world-class care for our patients using state of the art imaging technology for diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional imaging services. We are a large department working across the three main hospitals and satellite sites. We provide specialist referral services such as HPB and Renal. We are currently replacing equipment ensuring we are using the cutting edge equipment at the highest level of specification.

We offer unique opportunities to grow and develop our staff from the very beginning of their career to advance in their chosen field level through various training and CPD opportunities. For example, we are proud to provide development for staff to various roles such as Reporting Radiographers and Consultant Sonographers.

Dietetics:

  • Our nephrology department has a national reputation for MDT led management of renal bone disease, and has specialist renal genetics and rare renal diseases, as well as a large kidney transplantation program including robotic transplantation.

  • We are a centre of excellence for neuroendocrine tumours, with a well established multi disciplinary team, seeing patients from around the country.

  • We are the regional specialist centre for liver transplantation and rare liver diseases, with an extensive MDT who work together to support these patients.

Physiotherapy:

  • We have an integrated, award winning Advanced Practice Physiotherapy and First Contact Practitioner team

  • Established consultant physiotherapists within the team

  • Supportive and compassionate management team and colleagues

  • Wide variety of specialisms to rotate into and work in, providing excellent learning opportunities

THE ROYAL FREE NEUROLOGICAL REHABILITATION CENTRE AT EDGWARE HOSPITAL PROVIDES A RANGE OF SPECIALIST SERVICES:

  • Multidisciplinary team of therapists and nurses providing a specialist level 2 in-patient rehabilitation service   

  • Community neurological Condition Management Team provides rehabilitation and condition management services for adults with long term neurological conditions and an annual review via a long term register.

  • Vocational rehabilitation Service - a specialist Occupational therapy led service to support people  with disabilities stay in or return to work 

  • Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Nurse specialist 

  • Barnet Neuronavigation to support people with complex needs to access the right rehabilitation pathway

Podiatry:

  • The Podiatry team are specialists in assessing and treating acute foot conditions.

  • Our Podiatrists work as part of a large multidisciplinary team at the specialist hospital for vascular and renal disease for North Central London.

  • We have an established record of published research and on-going national and international clinical trials.

  • Our Podiatrists educate and train undergraduate podiatrists, nurses and medical students.

Occupational Therapy:

  • We are a centre for excellence for liver and renal transplants, infectious diseases and oncology

  • We have a state of the art ICU with specialist AHPs who key members of the MDT. We are one of the few ICUs in the country that has an established OT team in ICU.

  • Newly refurbished emergency deparment with a strong AHP presence working to a home first mindset

  • We use a quality improvement approach with patient and carer co-design for service development

Speech and Language Therapy:

  • We offer a comprehensive variety of services across Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Neurological Rehabilitation Centre and the Royal Free Hospital.

  • We work with people affected by conditions including dementia, stroke, cancer, traumatic brain injury, respiratory illness, Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions and voice disorders.

  • We work across acute, rehabilitation and intensive care settings as well as providing some outpatient services.

  • We work closely with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines such as ENT, physiotherapy, respiratory medicine, neurological rehabilitation, max-fax, occupational therapy, critical and intensive care, dietetics, gastroenterology, palliative care and geriatrics.

  • Our experienced team is committed to developing our staff, encouraging and supporting them to achieve their potential.

  • Structured professional development and frequent learning opportunities are provided to equip staff to deliver the excellent care that our patients deserve.

  • Training in gold-standard imaging techniques such as videofluoroscopy (VF) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is provided to staff as part of our commitment to cutting-edge evidence-based practice.
